Monitor very quick to install and easy to use (5 out of 5), but the software supplied is a bit quirky, ok for a simple graph or 2. If you want to "go to town" on the analysis the software does let you export the data, so you could use Excel etc. (Posted on 18/08/2015)

  5. A Real Money saver Review by Les Read

Our small campsite and house seemed to be costing way too much in electricity and the latest tariffs were about to make it worse! In my head I had an idea of the way to become more efficient but when connecting the Owl it becomes painfully obvious. Simply enter the required data and just watch the pence mounting as the kilowatts are burning, you too will turn off the electric fires and take away the halogen floodlights! Seeing numbers increasing is really effective when seeing a 100watt spot as a source of light left on overnight, it's no longer 'oh dear'!! The device equates usage to cost and effect in real time, as simple as that, and does it very well. (Posted on 30/05/2012)

  6. Excellent product and very easy to set up Review by Molly - Dublin

Excellent product and very easy to set up, Portability is good to wander around the house switching off appliances to see what they are costing you.

You can save some serious money on energy bills. My monthly bills were getting excessive. This monitor found that a 20 year old fridge freezer was costing me over £20 per month! By altering the thermostat and defrosting I have reduced it's usage massively but plan to reduce it with a more energy efficient A+ item.

Switching items like PC's off when not in use will save approximately £10 per month. Switching off lights when not needed, especially spot lights or strip lamps are further savings that can be made.

Believe me, I am not living in the dark now just being more sensible. My monthly bill will be reduced by over half thanks to this monitor.

I have only had the monitor for coming up to a week now but it has paid for itself already. PC downloading of data allows you to keep on top of usage and not slip back in to bad habits,

  8. Good product to control power consumption Review by Loris

Product conforming to what was said in the window of sale,
I am happy with the product, unfortunately, I can't fully apply the 6 available rates to size the cost that the company charge me, due to the impossibility of establishing a start time and end time for the single rate, but only the start time for each, I must say in fairness that I do not know about England but in my country (Italy) the bill is so complex that it would take as many as 9 rates to size the cost, but all the rest is Ok

  9. Great gadget - but really useful too Review by CPJ

The USB connection feature makes this a much more useful gadget than a simple display. The ability to store data for a long period and upload it to a PC is really great. The use of the local display for historical data is quite clumsy but via the USB link analysis of consumption down to 5 minute intervals can really pin down where the consumption is. Exported data files can be readily processed in spreadsheets etc (Posted on 12/05/2012)

  10. Great gadget - but really useful too Review by Gwhite

You need to persevere with this product but it will pay dividends. It is quite easy to set up. The most fiddly thing was attaching the sensor clip to live-out wire from the electricity meter - only because of cramped access. Immediately it starts giving you really useful, real-time data. I found out instantly who were the 'hidden dragons' of electicity consumption in our house - I already knew about the dishwasher and tumble dryer of course - but was shocked to find that the next 2 worst culprits were the halogen spots in the hallway and the halogen spots in the kitchen. The ten spots in the kitchen (installed by the previous owner) changed consumption from 5.5p per hour to 16 p per hour or about 800-1000 watts! I am now playing around with the software and will post a review of that soon. Good investment! (Posted on 12/05/2012)

  11. Owl CM160 Review by K Neilson
    Quality

    Value

The energy meter was ordered and arrived as promised in very good condition. It was easy to install the software and basically it works as described except on very low consumption it overestimates the energy passing. I also noticed a mistake in the instructions - when returning from viewing "average" values" the instructions says to press "MODE" when the correct button is "ADJUST". (Posted on 12/05/2012)
